Cat Toilet Training in Two Quick Lessons
Nearly everybody who owned a house cat knows what a pain it is, to take care of a cat litterbox and clean it frequently. And so many owners of indoor cats have experienced what an even more unnerving job it is if the kitty doesn’t take the litter box! Of course there are many among us always dreaming of more important achievments and do not wish to learn more about litter box cleaning. For these kitty owners, there is good news now. Indeed, believe it or not, it is not a big thing to train kitties, to use a real toilet. When you are toilet training your kitty, you will teach it to move from using a litter box to using a toilet. While this sounds too good to be true, temper your imagination a little bit with the realization that you will still have to flush the toilet for your kitty.
1. Relocating Your Cat’s Litter Box
If your cat’s litter box is not already in the bathroom, you will need to place it there. The cat box should be near the toilet on the ground for some time. After a few days you will raise your litter box up several inches using something very stable to sit under it. If you have no furniture fitting this description, you could use books if they are arranged in a balanced manner. The goal is, to get to the point where the edge of the cat box and the toilet bowl are on the same level. Then you should install a sturdy aluminum pan over the toilet bowl in a way that will allow it to support your cat without wobbling as you start the toilet training. You should put less than an inch of kitty litter across the bottom of the pan.
2. Making your Kitty feel Comfortable when using its new Toilet Seat
When you have removed the litter box and have the cat using only the pan, you are ready to start with the last part of toilet training of your cat. You can begin the training by poking some holes in the bottom of one side of your aluminum pan. Of course, you should cut back on the cat litter so that it doesn’t leave through the toilet. And, you should consider using flushable kitty litter at this point. The holes are supposed to force the cat to put its front paws on the toilet seat as it needs to potty. When your cat has been doing this for some days, you should make holes on the opposite side of the pan and that the cat will stand entirely on the toilet seat. The critical step of the toilet training is that you have to remove the pan after your cat got used doing this with success for quite some time. If you are a successful cat instructor, your kitty will now take the bathroom toilet!
A Final Info on Toilet Training your Cat
These 2 lessons could take as long as two or three months time with a narrow minded, older cat. So be patient with your little friend. Always remember a wet environment isn’t something cats are innately comfortable around. Don’t give up if your kitty doesn’t use the new toilet a couple of times in a row. You should keep your pan in case your cat is against it or is just not in the mood using the toilet. Put the pan back again on the toilet seat and the cat can be re-trained to use the toilet again pretty fast. The benefits of toilet training your feline companion are many.
